This volume testifies to the spread of symbolic interactionism as a theoretical and methodological perspective across the European continent. Going beyond the legacy of Herbert Blumer, it represents a moment to reflect upon the future development of the
discipline, a decade after the birth of the European Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. The book thus provides an opportunity to explore the multiple directions
in which contemporary symbolic interactionism has evolved in a variety of European contexts.
